Upgrading to 6.6.0

Have folks updated the legacy NAS units to 6.6.0? I have 6.5.1 at the moment and am wondering whether it's safe to go ahead with the upgrade.

Just done it on 2 ReadyNas Appliances Pro 6 and Ultra 6 both work fine after the upgrade.

I also tested ReadyDR which works fine too

Re: Upgrading to 6.6.0

We'd suggest following ReadyNAS OS 6: Firmware Upgrade Guide and Tips when doing any firmware update.

If you follow this guide you do minimise your risks.

If you use apps I would suggest checking the threads about app compatibility and updating your already installed compatible apps to the latest version (if you have not done so already) before doing the firmware update.

Re: Upgrading to 6.6.0

Hi All,

Upgraded just fine and updated the apps that I used. One issue I'm noticing is that I'll shut it down, and a short time afterward, it will start back up again. I don't run it 24/7 - it's more on demand, so this is a little odd. Any ideas on troubleshooting?

Re: Upgrading to 6.6.0

That might suggest a PSU that is on the way out. I assume this happens regardless of when or how the system is shutdown? If not the issue is likely something different.

Re: Upgrading to 6.6.0

I'm running an Ultra 6 at version 6.5.0 at the moment. Should i update straight to 6.6.0? 6.5.1 and 6.5.2 both had issues on my unit.

Re: Upgrading to 6.6.0

Upgrading direct from 6.5.0 to 6.6.0 is fine.

Re: Upgrading to 6.6.0

Hi, the upgrade went fine and the system is running smooth, except for the fan speed... it is fluctuating as i described in the following post:

Upgraded a pro 6 to 6.6.0 but the web gui doesn't load. 😞

Low and behold IP was changed to dynamic from my static setting.

Re: Upgrading to 6.6.0

Does 6.6.0 natively ship with and/or support Java 8?

So do you get the management service is offline error or was it just the I.P. change that was the problem?

OS6 does not include Java but you could install it if you really want to.

OS-6 doesn't ship with java installed, but you can manually install it with ssh.  Java 8 can be installed on Debian Jessie (which is what OS 6.6.0 uses).

Re: Upgrading to 6.6.0

Just the IP change threw me off, I tried rebooting 3x, finally looked at the LED on the Pro6 and it said .177 (vs my selected static .100)

I then was able to login/etc.

Re: Upgrading to 6.6.0

Was still having problems, just noticed I cant get static to stick in the GUI. Keeps reverting to DHCP.  Annoying.

Re: Upgrading to 6.6.0

Do you still this after clearing your web browser cache?

If so, can you send me your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)?

Re: Upgrading to 6.6.0

@AMRivlin, can you enable Secure Diagnostic Mode, and PM me the 5-digit code?  Your logs show a permissions issue with the directory where the network config file lives.  Side note: your logs also show what appears to be a brute-force attack on the SSH server.  You may want to remove the NAS from direct internet access, or at least disable password authentication and require keys instead.

Re: Upgrading to 6.6.0

Thanks, sent. Was the brute force recent?
