Volume Scan - How long should it take?
I started a volume scan about 20 hours ago and it is still going. I have 2 - 500 GB drives in mirror with about 180GB of data. Is this typical runtime?

Re: Volume Scan - How long should it take?
The duo is pretty slow by modern standards, but 20 hours for 500 GB is excessive.
Check the disk health on both drives.
And if you don't have a backup, you should start copying files.

Re: Volume Scan - How long should it take?
Ok, thanks. I have a new drive arriving on Monday that I can connect via USB for additional backup. What would be the best way to get out of this volume scan? Holding the power button doesn't have any effect.

Re: Volume Scan - How long should it take?
Actually. Now that I am paying attention to things. The power light is doing a slow blink and the activity light blinks once every couple seconds. Not blinking on the HDD lights. So maybe it isn't even scanning?

Re: Volume Scan - How long should it take?
I located the LED PDF. I have a pulsating power light and a slow blinking activity light. That pattern is not in the list. I tried a power cycle and it is doing the same thing.

Re: Volume Scan - How long should it take?
In case you didn't find the 2-bay led patterns:
LED blink behavior for 2 disk systems is three quick blinks of all disk LEDs and the backup LED, followed by an 1s delay, followed by a number of slow blinks. The number of slow blinks will be the error code.
Current error codes:
1 - Vendor mismatch
2 - No disks detected
3 - Bad contents on root partition of disks
4 - Flash error
5 - Unsupported RAID configuration

Re: Volume Scan - How long should it take?
It appears that the system never started the volume scan. I shut down the NAS and pulled a suspect disk out. It strted up and scanned the remaining drive with no issue. I have copied what I could to my desktop and I am trying to upload another copy to some rmeote storage that I have. That will take some time, but worth the added insurance. I have two disks on order now. One will arrive on Monday, and the 2nd on Tuesday.
