Volume 'data' usage exceeds 70 % of size (1.8 TB).

Hi,

I have a RNDU4000 running 6.1.1 with 2x2TB WDs.

I got this email: Volume 'data' usage exceeds 70 % of size (1.8 TB).

Thing is, I've only copied 750gb into nas so far??

Do you have snapshots enabled? If so, try manually deleting them.

hm, I do have them enabled. How do I delete them? Don't they cleanup automatically?

They do clean up automatically with 6.1.2, I don't recall if 6.1.1 also did this. You'll see the deletions in the log if they are being done.

I don't know the algorithm for "smart snapshots" though, and if you want to bring the size down quickly you'll need to manually delete them anyway (which is tedious). Click on the share with the admin ui, and then click on recover. All the snapshots for the share are displayed, and you can delete them one at a time by clicking on them.

If you think this will be an ongoing problem (e.g. you delete or rewrite a lot of new data to the share) you can disable the snapshot feature on a share-by-share basis.

thanks!

that is good, it's possible to select all of them and delete them at once.

However, doing that I noticed a bug.

For "Memories" share I have daily snapshots enabled. So far, I have only copied in two folders to that share, total 275mb. Now I see that I have 29 snapshots, and each of them is taking up 275mb! Should only first one have them, and rest be empty??

sorry, I might be wrong, it's just the way it's shown via smb..

Re: Volume 'data' usage exceeds 70 % of size (1.8 TB).

When you browse a snapshot in recovery mode, you see everything that was in the share at the time the snapshot was taken.

But the actual space taken up by the snapshot is only the changes (deletions and replaced files particularly) so it is much less.

It would be nice to see the actual snapshot size in the Web UI somewhere.
