Which product should I use?
Hi,
I am looking at providing two solutions, one to a small company up to about 15 users and another that can scale to maybe 30 or so. Both solutions require:
1. The ability to sync to another readynas offsite as a backup (without buying additional licenses if possible) but with some sort of success / failure feedback!
2. The ability to run modules such as MySQL / Webserver if required.
I saw the ReadyNAS Pro but it is a little expensive for a small concern, at the other end of the scale the Duo seems to be just for home. Which models would you recommend I take a look at?
I don't have the money to go buy a model of each for evaluation! 🙂
Thanks
Graham

Re: Which product should I use?
Well for business I'd choose from the NVX (not Pioneer), Pro Business Edition (not Pioneer) and the new Pro Series (Pro 2/4/6).
If you don't want to buy additional licenses and don't have a VPN setup for secure communication between the two sites Rsync over SSH is great to use. This is only available on the business models (e.g. the desktop ones I listed above). Business ReadyNAS come with a 5 year warranty which is great for peace of mind.
If you do have some extra money to spend, then I'd recommend using Replicate (http://www.readynas.com/replicate). There is a free trial of this software available. It requires one license for each ReadyNAS.
Any ReadyNAS can run a webserver and MySQL, but you really should get an x86 ReadyNAS (e.g. the ones I mentioned above) if you want to do this. Sparc ReadyNAS (e.g. Duo, NV+) don't have a fast enough CPU to be good webservers. They can do it and you can tweak it a bit to improve performance a little, but it's best to get a x86 ReadyNAS.
Sparc ReadyNAS (e.g. Duo, NV+) don't have Rsync over SSH and Replicate won't install on them either.
Be sure to choose disks from the HCL
