Why "Host Names"?
Hi,
I know there are lots of good reasons to use host names, but they are not functional in all scenarios;
I am setting up Rsync jobs for backing up my Pro Pioneer, using a pull-setup on my Ultra 2. Hence in the backup job I set the "Host" to be the "Host Name" of my Pro Pioneer. Except that doesn't work! I have to use the IP address, and that's OK, but what if I did not have dedicated IP addresses on my NASes?
Am I doing something wrong, do I have a setup issue, or is it true that when entering a "Host", I usually have to use the IP, and not the dedicated "Host Name"?

Re: Why "Host Names"?
I have several Frontview "pull" backup jobs in my Duo and NV+ (v1) which use my Pro's hostname and rsync.

Re: Why "Host Names"?
It can work both ways, if host name is not working I would imagine that there is one of a few different things that may be wrong. The first would be that the host name must be exactly entered as it is on host, and possibly that it's been entered slightly different. The names are case sensitive.

Re: Why "Host Names"?
Hi,
I thought do too, but the Host Name I am using is 100% correct. It works when I use the IP address, but not when I use the Host Name.

Re: Why "Host Names"?
Try setting one of the NASes as a WINS server. I suspect that one or both of the NASes is not registering itself with the computer that is acting as the Browse Master (if using Windows).

Re: Why "Host Names"?
Just a quick note; I am using 100% systems and only have AFP enabled. I'll try the WINS thing though.

Re: Why "Host Names"?
Nope, enabled WINS on the sending NAS, and the pulling NAS still does not "see" the Host Name. I still have to use the IP address in the Rsync setup.
