Will ReadyNAS DUO fan speed quiet down after firmware update

I just factory reset my RNDuo v1 and updated the firmware RAIDiator 4.1.4 but the fan is still walloping at 5400 RPM. I could have sworn after the update there was a radio button or simialr switch in the GUI to control that.

How can I get the RN quiet again after this reset?

And the volume is redundant?

You could try the Enable Fan Min RPM add-on, as some have found that it also seems to solve the high-speed problem.  No idea why that would work, but it is easy to try.  Just make sure you don't set the min fan speed too low.

Why did you install 4.1.4?  That's 12 years old.

Current 4.1.x firmware is 4.1.16. https://kb.netgear.com/000038792/RAIDiator-Version-4-1-16-Sparc

I read on the forum that it addresed the loud fan issue.

I don't know what you read, but any fix in 4.1.4 would have been carried forward to 4.1.16.

I suggest reverting back to current firmware.

Was the fan running continuously at 5400 rpm?  Was the NAS still syncing?

ever since the Factory reset, yes. but it's goes quiet, then back up, kinda of randomly. Maybe it's still syncing (although  have yet to put any data on it). I can wait.

Attached are the latest logs. I just thought back when I had this as a new NAS, there was an update that gave us control over the fan straight in the GUI. Maybe I'm mistaken. It's good now.

Re: Will ReadyNAS DUO fan speed quiet down after firmware update

How many days should I wait for the fan to keep running high? Is there a way to ascertain if it's still syncing?

Re: Will ReadyNAS DUO fan speed quiet down after firmware update

If the array status is redundant, then it is synced.  If it says degraded then it isn't.

It should be synced by now.

Re: Will ReadyNAS DUO fan speed quiet down after firmware update

I don't see any logs about sync status. Both LED lights for the 2 drives are just steady, geen lights.

Fan @ 5769 RPM

X-RAID config

No other alerts or on-going advise

 How do I validate that?

Look at the volume settings page in the NAS web ui.  The status field should say redundant.

finally yes! That worked like it did before the factory reset. Thanks

Fan was constant at 5638 RPM, now is quiet at 2586 RPM
