Windows File History and Windows Backup and Restore Simultaneously

Has anyone, or is anyone, using both Windows Backup and File History Back up simultaneously between same system?

My PC is set up with an SSD with Windows 10 and all applications installed.  The PC also has a pair of 2 TB drives configured as a RAID1 drive - which is where all the data lives.

I want to use Windows Backup to for the SSD drive C:.

And have File History configured for the RAID Data drive 😧

Anything of concern here?  Can it be done? Any gotcha's?

Thank you in advance.

AJ

Re: Windows File History and Windows Backup and Restore Simultaneously

Windows 10 Backup/Restore on the one hand and Windows File History are two different process, which are completely separate from each other.

You can setup Windows in a way that both goes to the same target. I have that setup using an external harddisk as target. I do not see a reason, why your nas could not be the target.

However, with all these things you want to try before you put into production. So, I suggest to just try it out and finally make your judgement based on the outcome.

This is a readynas forum - and your question doesn't seem to be about a ReadyNAS.

I'll lock the thread - if I am missing something, please PM me using the messages link in the upper right.

EDIT- unlocked, since the OP is a ReadyNAS owner, and one of the use cases is certainly windows backup to the ReadyNAS.

Re: Windows File History and Windows Backup and Restore Simultaneously

To add some more info to this, I am using ReadyNAS, a small 100 series to back-up.  By nature, back-ups are redundant, so the premise in the first post was not clear that my intention is to send both these approaches to back-up to my ReadyNAS.

I'm specifically following the guildelines in the online FAQ's and ReadyNAS documentation in the following places:

  1. Starting with the FAQ in ReadyNAS Documentation on Back - Link-HERE
  2. Which lead to the two options - both documented by ReadyNAS.
  3. ReadyNAS documentation Link HERE for Windows 10 Backup and Restore.
  4. ReadyNAS documentation Link HERE for Windows 10 Backup using File History.

Unfortunately, while excellent tutorials, neither indicates if both can be done simultaneously. Maybe it's obvious - but I'm hoping someone can confirm the answer through experience.

I'm sure that ReadyNAS can handle the storage -

I see that 45 others in the last week have viewed the original question (thread post) - so this is apparently a question others may also have on the Community Site.

If you have used both methods (Windows 10 Backup and Restore and Windows File History) and your experience indicates that Windows allows both to your ReadyNAS simultaneiously, Please comment.

Thank you,

AJ
