Windows software setting required to mount Linux

http://sourceforge.net/projects/ext2fsd/

Using this software, is it possible to mount a drive as a drive letter in Windows? For the life of me I can't seem to get it right. It always says, would you like to format the drive.

I have a drive from a Netgear Readynas Duo, which I believe is ext3. Disk Internals Linux Reader reads it fine, but I ideally need to mount it as a drive in Windows, so I can use a drive synchronizing software to compare source to destination [my now repaired nas].

Any help greatly appreciated.

Sharpey.

Happy to post a screenshot of the available partitions etc, if that will help?

Re: Windows software setting required to mount Linux

I use ext2explor or some/same software to browse my drives and backup drives from my version one duo with has been slowing dying... I replaced it with a 102. I am happy to report 2 things...

first, you cannot mount the drive to a drive letter with that software, but you can browse the drive and save the contents to another drive of to the computer. In my case, I did this. I also found out that the new readynas 100 series will mount and read the ext volumes just fine!

I hope this helps... I love my duo and still trying to see if it is salvageable... But the new 100 series is so nice. The OS is much more responsive that RAIDidator... I am just trying to figure out how to format a usb drive like the old duo did... My duo hdd crashed in slot one, which I have had numerous drives replaced under warranty from slot one... Did it seemed as if slot one finally died... USB drives will not mount, but the UPS will... but has reported false information before like not being connected. Slot two works, and for a month I was crippled running on just slot 2 with no way to back it up so I kept my backups very safe, but I still needed my nas up... I finally bought a the new 102, but finally had time to transfer the data a week later... I really took a chance, but all is fine now 🙂

Maybe you can simply copy it to an NTFS drive and sync that? I'm think CRC comparisons are likely all you need.

Hi there.

Yeah that's what I ended up doing. Not ideal, but I didn't have a choice.
