after 6.5.2 update backups pc to NAS do not complete
this week updated the NASD firmware from 6.5.1 to 6.5.2
my weekly updates from PC to NAS were working ok last week - now they do not complete.
the update reports starting - then in progress - and sits there doing nothing other than the update button on my NAS is flashing. this was noticed 3 days after the updates were scheduled.
have tried making a test update from PC to NAS - same thing happens. tested the access to source in bakcup settings and that was OK.
I also have NAS updates to a usb connected hard drive... those work OK.
what has happened in update to 6.5.2 ?

I am not sure I understand.
when I check for updates on my RN204 it says I have the latest version. there has been no mention of os6.6.0.
is this a beta version?

Manual updating firmware can be done instead, you may see and download 6.6.0 from this link.

It is production, not beta. Netgear generally announces firmware upgrades (with download links) first, and adds them to the update server a bit later (perhaps a week).
6.6.0 was released on Sep 29, and apparently isn't on the update server yet.

OK - have now updated my firmware to OS6.6.0
problem still exists - back ups run but do not do anything and do not complete. backup button on front of unit is blinking and it will remain in that state for ever more unless cancelled. page showing backups reports "in progress" for the selected backup - but will also remanin in that state for evermore.
this is not good.
have remade a backup script to see if that would solve the problem - but doesnt.
ideas please - my weekly backups are important.

Have you tried creating a test backup? A different share on the NAS that has no permission.

not sure what you mean about " has no permission " - but I have created and tried a test backup from a PC share to a newly created share on the NAS - with the same result.
There is one difference I noticed with the 6.5.2 update is that to log into the admin page I now have to use my email address - I am pretty sure that before used to use the ID " admin " - but because was on saved credentials not too sure about that.
if there was a problem with share access - shouldnt it report it - same as if it cannot access the source.
there are no logs created by the failed backup - but is there a log somewhere which will indicate what is happening? need to get this sorted out.

Some other users have reported this problem, but Netgear hasn't been able to reproduce it. If you are willing to give them remote access, try sending a PM to @mdgm-ntgr, @Skywalker, or @kohdee. Include a link to this thread.

The admin UI username should be admin, so this is a bit odd. Are you accessing as https://nas-ip-address/admin - using the real ip address?

The admin page will always accept the user "admin"
The ReadyNAS Admin Page has also accepted the ReadyCLOUD owner credentials for many versions.

Yes, though it sounded like admin wasn't accepted.

Latest development
the login window when accessing admin page from RAIDar used to have user ID as admin and the local admin password.
I noticed when I first tried after the 6.5.2 update - that this little window asked for email and password ( when I first tried "admin" it didnt seem to work - so used email and password as for netgear login. that worked , but the update from PC to NAS failed as reported above
having seen the latest posts - I have retried with success to log in with " admin " and the local admin password. a backup is now running and seems to be working OK.
So tell everyone to ignore the request for email and password on admin login window,,,, use the local admin credentials. ~Tell Netgear to remove the request for email .

Ohhh Dear - I thought it was runing OK - it certainly was writing data, but it has not completed. the backup button on front panel is flashing, but the system is not doing anything as far as I can tell. and the backup screen reports still in progress.
I shall leave it in that state overnight just to see if is just slow and will complete, but I dont hink it will.
be in touch tomorrow. if someone want to access my system to see whats happening - that can be arranged.

as I finally feared, login with admin user ID did not clear the problem.... backups still did not complete... the reason I saw data being written was because it would appear all my backup scripts have reverted to " first time " so incremental back up not actioned - a full one instead. presumably this was because I logged in with email address before reverting back to the " admin " credential. ( dont know )
however the problem is still there and needs to be sorted out as soon as possible.
the offer remains - I am willing to allow an authorised access to my NAS to locate this problem.

Would you please advise me as to the current situation regarding this problem which is affecting me and it seems other people as well
my system backups are now 2 weeks out of date which is not a situation I am happy with.

We haven't been able to reproduce the problem as yet. Backups work fine for us. Once we can determine what's needed to reproduce the problem we can then determine the best way forward.
