Hi I have a netgear fvs318 router at work that I have a vpn setup on. I am able to access my network remotely using software on my laptop and am able to access the server and router login page.
I just recently installed a readynas 312 on the network and it's working great but I am unable to access it remotely through the vpn. I can connect to the network and I am able to ping the nas address successfully, but I cannot connect to any shares and I cannot access the admin page for nas settings.
Any ideas why this isn't working through the VPN
Thank you

Try using "check for updates" to check that the NAS can connect to the internet (though of course you aren't doing that, it confirms the that the NAS IP config is ok).
It that fails, then check the subnet mask and the gateway in the NAS IP configuration next. If either is wrong, it often will connect if the PC is on the same subnet as the NAS, but won't if the PC is on a different subnet.
Also, check the path MTU using ping. Generally the MTU on a VPN connection is a bit less than ethernet.
With Windows, ping NASIP -f -l 1472
If that fails, lower the 1472 value until it succeeds. When you find the largest value X that works, set the NAS MTU to X+28.

Re: cannot access Readynas over vpn
Is it set up to use a static address?
Are you accessing by name or IP address?

Re: cannot access Readynas over vpn
StephenB thank you so much that got it working. I had to fill out DNS info in the network setting on the NAS. I can connect now!
Thank you again
