How many disks, and how many volumes?

Overall, odds of recovering the files are slim.  If you are willing to pay for data recovery (or attempt it from a linux system), then reboot the NAS in read-only mode, as any writes to the data volume make the odds even slimmer.

If you'd had snapshots enabled (and had a snapshot made before the deletion), then you could easily have recovered the files.

4 disks, 5 volumes

I can't even get to admin page now, it just sits at "connecting"

How did you manage that?  Normally there are fewer volumes than disks.  Are you confusing "volumes" with "shares"?  If you are using XRAID you only have one volume.

Is there some event that triggered this?

When did you purchase the NAS?

Re: data recovery

And you've tried connecting with Windows File Explorer (or Finder) also?  Use \\nas-ip-address in the File Explorer address bar.

What status does RAIDar give you?

Huh?

Normally you access data with file explorer, not your browser.  Sometimes the file explorer interface works when the browser fails, so you should check both.

Re: data recovery

With the NAS, the browser is used for management, but it is much faster to use file explorer to get to the data.

Use the right slash direction ( \\nas-ip-address  or \\nas-name ).  // will just open the browser.

Re: data recovery

Good.  The next step is to backup your data - then you'll avoid any need for data recovery.

Try ReclaiMe.  Several folks here have reported success with it (and it is the only Windows recovery tool I know of that supports BTRFS).

Re: data recovery

I've had reasonable luck with Sabrent models, though you do need to be care to get the USB 3.0 ones.  The USB 2.0 ones are older, and might not handle disks > 2 TB.  Also I like the ones with a separate power supply (some of the new ones power the disk from the USB port).

Do you recall how many volumes you have?  If you have one volume per disk, then you'll only need to connect one to the PC to try ReclaiMe.  But if you had only one volume (with 5 shares), then you'll need to connect all four drives to the PC.
