eth0 Network Interface broken after Software Upgrade to 6.9.3 Still broken in 6.10.0

Hi All,

I refer to this old post https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS-in-Business/eth0-Network-Interface-broken-after... becuse this is when my issues started. Yeh yeh I know, like 3 years wow....anyways

I'm now on 6.10.0 and have regularly done updates, with the thought that the firmware should fix this issue, as it was the firmware that broke it, but nooooo, still a problem.

I cannot;

Reboot and get a NIC link

Shutdown and powerup and get a NIC link

This is on both NICs too.

I have to pull the power plug as I get the do_exit+9ec error, but has recently changed to do_exit+4cc error.

The fan winds up at boot, but eventually calms down.

To get a NIC link, I must wait around 10-15 minutes to put the power plug back in, and then only sometimes it gives me a link light.

I've got dosen's of RN boxes with clients over the years and have not come across this issue, so does this mean I just landed a lemon(it was working perfectly on 6.9.2 though) or did 6.9.3 really break something?

I've only lasted this long, as 6.10.0 really did a nasty, where I've had to do a factory reset, and 2 x OS Reinstalls, in which I've only reset up tonight.

I dread having to do FW upgrades on my RN214 because of the pain that they cause.

Netgear ppls, what needs to happen to fix this????

Thx in adv

Paul.

I was talking about doing an RMA with Netgear.

If you are the original purchaser, the manufacturer's warranty is 3 years.  The RN214 was introduced in the fall of 2016, so most owners should still be covered by the warranty.

If your NAS is under warranty, then I suggest doing an RMA.

You'd do this via my.netgear.com.  If you never uploaded your proof of purchase, you will need to do that.

Re: eth0 Network Interface broken after Software Upgrade to 6.9.3 Still broken in 6.10.0

Hi,

Ok so I called Netgear, and creating a case number #41230668, and sat on the phone, nearly an hour, explaining all this few times to the agent, who spoke toa Senoir Expert 3 times, then was told we'll call you back, ok I said, thanks speak soon.

5 days later I asked for an update on my warranty case via the portal, and got a thanks, sorry it took so long, we need to do troubleshooting as per our policy(err did I mention if I reboot the NICs don't work....), so sorry for inconvienence can you call us, case closed.........

WAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry Netgear this is not customer support.

We have a saying in AU, "NOT HAPPY JAN!!!".

Netgear, the product you built is broken after firmware 6.9.3, please fix or replace.

I suggest just telling them that eth0 is broken, and not giving them your idea on the cause.  That just muddies the waters.

They likely will insist on going through their troubleshooting - though it seems odd that they would actually close the case. @JohnCM_S, can you escalate somehow?

Hi,

Thanks for the help. Yes I thought it odd too when I read "Case Closed" and them asking me to call them on a US 1-888 number when they knew I'm on AU.

Anyways, this is the comment left by support;

Dear Paul, This is my response to your online case. I would like to apologized for the late reply for only now did I received the advised from the Senior Expert. The advised given is to still follow the policy of Netgear to do the necessary troubleshooting and if it's proven defective then a replacement will be provided since the device is within the hardware warranty. Should you consider this, Then please do not hesitate to call us back for we are open 24/7 through this number 1-888-638-4327. Again, I do apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. Thank you for choosing NETGEAR. Regards, Anne NETGEAR L1 Support Expert

This case has already been closed, please log a new support request if you require further help.

Re: eth0 Network Interface broken after Software Upgrade to 6.9.3 Still broken in 6.10.0

Hi @Cavy

Welcome to the Community!

There was an issue with the RN200 series NIC on 6.9.x wherein the NIC tends to get hot and disables itself. The workaround was to shutdown the NAS and wait for a few minutes and turn back on to get it working. However, this should have been resolved since 6.9.5

If you have done Factory reset but still get this issue then it is a good cause for the unit to be replaced. Can you send me a PM regarding your contact information so we can have the case endorsed.

Regards
