"ERR: Could not find internal fla"
ReadyNAS was working seemingly normally, however a backup job was failing stating that an external USB drive was "readonly". This drive is one of a pair I use to back up important files, the other of which was working. I couldn't find a reason for the "readonly" designation when I perused the settings, so from the web admin page I did a "shutdown/restart" command, hoping this might clear up the USB drive issue, however the NAS now will not restart and is giving the error in the subject line on the built-in display: "ERR: Could not find internal fla".
Help..?

Re: "ERR: Could not find internal fla"
Updates:
Found instructions online for "USB recovery". Found USB recovery image for x86 ReadyNAS (mine is a Pro Business), latest version I could find created a 4.2.15 recovery image. I installed this onto a USB key and attempted recovery. The ReadyNAS will boot to this drive and run on RAIDiator v4.2.15.
Once it was back up on v4.2.15, I attempted to do a remote update. The update tool said the latest was v4.2.20, but updating does not work - when I choose to update, it fails with an error. I then downloaded v4.2.21 and tried a local update. The local update tool verifies the image, but when I try to actually load the image, RAIDiator says it cannot be found - even though it is sitting on my hard disk. I then found v4.2.22 and tried local update. This appeared to work - the update verified and then completed and RAIDiator told me to reboot the NAS. I did so - and now I'm back to "ERR: Could not find internal fla".
Oh so fun to spend hours with such things. Especially at tax prep time. Any suggestions on how to recover my internal flash and get a copy of the latest version of RAIDiator on it?
Thanks,
H.

Re: "ERR: Could not find internal fla"
Another update:
After the events in the prior update, I reinserted the v4.2.15 recovery USB drive and restarted. The ReadyNAS faithfully rebooted using the flash drive, back to v4.2.15, and then via the OLED display noted that it was updating its "FS" to new firmware. It then appeared to do a quick restart to the new firmware, and came up running v4.2.22. This looked good.
I then removed the recovery flash drive, checked RAIDiator, and everything looked fine and dandy at v4.2.22. So I did a shutdown/reboot. Boom, back to "ERR: Could not find internal fla"
At this point it's pretty clear something's wrong with the "internal fla", which of course must be flash storage. How can I manipulate this storage space, reformat it, get v4.2.22 on it, etc.?
Thanks again,
H.

Re: "ERR: Could not find internal fla"
Remove RAIDiator-x86-4.2.15 from your USB key and put the 4.2.22 image on it. Then try a USB Boot Recovery again. If you do this it should format the internal flash and put 4.2.22 on it.

That suggestion appears to have worked. Thank you so much. 🙂
