Yes, it's a V2. I'm working on based windows system. My laptop detects the disc removed but I can not see the information.

Well the ReadyNAS uses md devices and LVM. You'd need to use a tool that could work with that. This is useful for data recovery more as a last resort.

X-RAID2 and Flex-RAID are both the same when it comes to the comment I made above.

The way to do backups would be to backup to a USB disk another NAS or some place else.

Ok. Thank you. Then only you can view content from linux. Right?

Again, thank you.

Re: read a disk from raid 1 through external box

If your disks are independent volumes (jbod) or mirrored (xraid-2 or raid-1 with your duo) then you could probably read them on a Windows machine using the ext2fsd drivers. http://www.ext2fsd.com/?page_id=16

There are also some commercial data recovery packages for Windows that claim support for RAID/Linux file systems.

The best approach is to do backups to a disk format that is native to windows. Otherwise you are hoping that the NAS volume has not been corrupted by the failure, as well as dealing with the mechanics of accessing the data.
