readynas 524 stuck on btrfs delete delayed dir index

Readynas 524 x4 totaly locked up with the following display

btrfs delete delayed dir index

During incident 4 people  were working on files from the nas, with programs that periodically write back or access the file (inDesign and Revit).

Admin access was maintained throughout the incident.  However, when the logs were collected, it locked up Firefox and after that I could not download logs.  Quotas are not activated, there are hourly snapshots on two volumes, and bit-rot protection is enabled.

How can I avoid this in the future,  Will files be corrupted, if I just power down while this is happening.

<rant follows>

I am only 30 days out of netgear support, and I have to admit, this particular unit has not given me much to complement it or have confidence.  This is my 5th readynas, and this one just doesn't seem to be up to the task.

<back to task>

This is a business, and this nas is mission critical.  What do I need to do to safegaurd data, and keep people working.

thanks in advance

Have you tried downloading the logs using a different web browser?

i finally powered down and I repowered the unit, which is back online.  I downloaded the logs.

It rebooted fine, but there is really no load on it at the moment.

I'd check the SMART stats in disk_info.log.

I have looked at the logs as well as the info from the browser dashboard and the disks are fine.  I have little experience reading logs, so that is about as far as I got.

Hopefully a Netgear mod will want to analyze the log zip file for you.

If the NAS is running ok now, then I'd just keep a eye on it.

Worked fine for 30+ hours.  syncing a Revit file brought up the same error.  Nothing obvious on the disks or anything else that I can see.  No errors showing in logs on the admin dash.  Nothing that I can see in the log files I'm looking at.

If you have disk spindown enabled, try disabling it.

Re: readynas 524 stuck on btrfs delete delayed dir index

thank you for your responses.  I don't believe I have checked disk spindown.  although none of the shares were using quotas, I  have unchecked that.  I do have bit-rot checked.

The reply isn't allowing me to post the kernal log, but there is definitely something there.  Way beyond my knowledge.

Definitely a file system problem.  If this means a factory reset, I don't know whether to stay with the system.  Never had this problem with the 314 or  the Ultra Pro.  Very disconcerting.

Not great that I'm 30 days beyond my support...
