Re: stuttering blu-ray
A Blu Ray can be as high as 40Mb/s but that should be well within your 1000Mbit link.
First, double check that your ports are actually going to 1Gb/s. Not familiar with your models but you'll find the info somewhere.
Then, transfer an ISO file to your main, fastest HDD (possibly an SSD) and see how much time it takes. See what Windows says as well. You should get a good idea of transfer time.
Finally you can try the NAS performance tester downloadable here
You should get a good idea of what's going on.

Nas is connected at 1Gb, just checked, light on router verifies
Same on media player, router sees 1GB connection.
Here is link to router and switch

Windows shows 26-52MB/s iso transfer from nas to laptop(ssd), 48GB iso
Nastester, 8000MB filesize
Running warmup...
Running a 8000MB file write on \\READYNAS\3D_Movies once...

Average (W): 56.09 MB/sec

Running a 8000MB file read on \\READYNAS\3D_Movies once...

Re: stuttering blu-ray
Well, it's beyond what's needed for the average BD.
What do you mean exactly with "stutters"? Does the picture freezes for a second or do you see stuttering during a panning?

Re: stuttering blu-ray
audio will skip, sometime video pauses.
I got new media player and while its an upgrade over previous units, wd live and ac ryan mini hd(these would stutter so bad that my avr(network receiver, yamaha) would drop audio frames and the encoder would flash from dts to off/or pro-logic)(jerky video) I still get some dropped audio but not to point where its affecting avr.
Interstellar, on the rocket launch scene was absolutely horrible, so bad I bought a blu-ray burner to get me thru the rough times.
media player set to 1080p 60hz and 24p enabled. tv is visio m551d 240Hz

Re: stuttering blu-ray
Are you 100% sure it's a network problem? What happens if you play the ISO's from your PC?

No, I meant play the ISO you have on your RN from your computer. I understand you're using a network receiver?
Was that happening before?

Re: stuttering blu-ray
Good. Then there is nothing wrong with the network or the ReadyNas - unless it's a weird issue. It may be that VLC is buffering and the media player is not and some minor network issue is causing the stuttering?
Must be something with the Media Player then. I don't know that player, has it worked in the past? Did you do anything before it stopped working fine?
It may be a question for the media player's community though...

Re: stuttering blu-ray
brand new latest and greatest media player, just released july 1. highly regarded over at avsforum and those guys are highly critical, i will ask though. It worked before until i moved up to larger file sized, small encoded files played perfect(yify), larger encoding(5-10)gb i would notice some stuttering but only got bad during action flicks. The big boy stuff(40gb) flat out sucks. media player is kdlinks a300, the other players dont support blu-ray 3d iso avc

Re: stuttering blu-ray
I am not seeing an a300 model. Can you look here and confirm the model? http://www.kdlinks.com/index.php/media-player.html
FWIW, even full BluRay rips (like your 40 GB files) don't put a big load on the NAS. BluRay is spec'd around 50 mbps (6-7 MBPS).

Re: stuttering blu-ray
Does your player support 23.976p (the 24p of Blu-Ray is really 23.976p)?
Which protocol is used to stream from the NAS to your media player?
Which firmware version are you running on your NAS?

Re: stuttering blu-ray
Actual rates vary. The BluRay spec itself allows transfer rates up to 54 mbps.

The point here is that the NAS read speed you measured is ~600 mbps, and even the slowest speed you saw with Windows was 224 mbps (e.g. 26 MB/s). That's a lot faster than the rated needed by the BluRay.
You might be confusing megabits with megabytes on your speed. Star Trek (your example) requires 26 megabits per second, which is only 3.25 megabytes per second.

Do you know if you are using SMB, NFS, or upnp(DLNA) on the Kodi?

If you install the SMB Plus app and change the settings to e.g. force SMB2 in that does that help?

Do you have a static I.P. set on the NAS? If so did you remember to set the DNS setting?
