Cant acceess shares in WIN 7 / 10
Hi,
Iam using a Ready NAS Duo V1 and all was working fine for a long time now.
But some days ago it disappeared in the file explorer and also in the network overview.
I can access the NAS shares through SSH, FTP, HTTP with PLEX or with my KODI which is using SMB I think. Also http admin page is working and upnp showed after acitvation also up.
But I cant access it anymore on my WIN10/WIN7 PC neither I can map the shares or the DHCP in the explorer.
What could be the reason?

Re: Cant acceess shares in WIN 7 / 10
Did you check to see how full the OS partition is (with SSH)?

That is the data volume. The OS is 4 GB (NOT TB), and you can only see it with ssh,
ssh into the box, and enter
df . -h
df . -I

That is full. What you need to do now is find out where the space is going.
You can start by looking more closely at /var/log and /var/cache - usually the problem is in one of those two. The cache can simply be emptied, over-sized log files should be truncated. (echo > /var/log/logfilename for instance).
If you have installed the plex server on the NAS, then you should see if its databases, etc are being saved on the OS partition. Anything that uses a lot of space should be stored somewhere on /c/. It is possible to create a share for apps on the data volume, then create subfolders in it that correspond to folders on the OS partition. Then copy the data with ssh, and replace the original OS folder with a soft link to the new apps folder. For instance ln -s /c/apps/subfolder /usr/local/subfolder will create a subfolder soft link to /c/apps/subfolder in /usr/local.

I really appreciate you help but I dont really get why a full OS partition shall raise the problems I have?
With OSx I find the NAS and I can also connect but not with Windows. Plex is also installed on a single Raspberry 3.
So your problem solution seems als little weird for me ;-).

When the OS partition gets full, a variety of services start misbehaving. SAMBA/SMB is one of them. Your OS partition is certainly nearly full, and if you don't take care of that it will brick your NAS (though Netgear support can still break in and fix it).
Basically you need to take care of the full OS, and then see what problems remain.

Re: Cant acceess shares in WIN 7 / 10
If not already done, try to install the app "SMB plus" and set the parameters as follows
SMB Version -> SMB3
Oplocks -> disable
Preallocate -> enable
Hide unreadable -> disable
Hide unwriteable -> disable
Restrict anonymous -> disable
SMD encrypt -> auto
SMB signing -> disabled
Good luck 🙂

The real problem is the full OS partition. That needs to be taken care of.
Installing apps is dangerous right now, it could push the OS partition over the top.

It seems that UPNP / DNLA is caching pictures for .mp3 's for bands.
Overall I cant see 4 GB, its arround 1,7 GB overall on system files.
EDIT - got it only 1.9 GB for the OS, not 4. Seems that the libs take a lot.
But be honest I dont know what i should delete or what not.

BIGBUBU:/var/cache/minidlna# du -hs files.db

But I dont know. Need some advice what to do.

Re: Cant acceess shares in WIN 7 / 10
Do not delete any files or directories; that is too dangerous.
Instead switch off AV and de-install all apps you do not truely need. Can re-install later with new fw 6.7
To see how much your hidden data resources are used, download the logfiles and go to btrfs.log. You will find something like the following. You might want to do that before and after your cleanup activities.
=== filesystem /data ===
Data, single: total=7.50TiB, used=7.48TiB
System, RAID1: total=32.00MiB, used=896.00KiB
Metadata, RAID1: total=1.00GiB, used=142.78MiB
GlobalReserve, single: total=64.00MiB, used=0.00B

Once the hidden resources hopefully are recovered, try to install app SMB Plus (see my earlier post to your topic)

Re: Cant acceess shares in WIN 7 / 10
I have a ReadyNas Duo V1 and Iam not sure that this OS version is available for my Nas neighter is SMB Plus I think. Latest OS working on the NAS should be 4.x.
So this isnt a solution for me.
I have to find the real reason why the internal SMB protocol stopped working.
If its really caused by a full OS partition, I have to deinstall apps or Linux components I installed over the years.
The point is is there an linux concole command to list up all installed plugins I installes with apt-get (manager) like apache server, midhnight commander and so on?
Thx

Re: Cant acceess shares in WIN 7 / 10
Well it seems I cant get a list with the manual installed packages but I can get a list with all available commands. The available command list allows a conclustion what is installd. You can the list with:
compgen -c

then
else
elif
fi
case
esac
for
select
while
until
do
done
in
function
time
{
}

Betreff: Cant acceess shares in WIN 7 / 10

In order to help, is there a breakdown of which folders are part of the OS parition and which are not under the /data folder but still not part of the OS paritiion? your symbolic links suggestion is gold but i know i am concerned about some stuff that may not be counted as OS partiion anyway.

So what I did now to gain some space was very pragmatic.
I disabled the DLNA plugin and deleted the database file and also the fetched pictures. That got me some space back and Iam unsing now only 75% aof the OS partition.
That means imho that all issues caused by an full OS partition should have been gone after the reboot.
But they aren`t still SMB/CIFS isnt working. So the full OS partition was not causing the problem.
What I tried was to map the ftp as an folder but that wasnt working either. So I tried to map it over the DYDNS I use for external access and that was working.
I can ping the NAS on its IP in the network and get a fast response but I cant ping the ip on the port like 192.168.178:21.
Neighter I can map the shares via WEBDAV. I can access it via Crhome over the DYDNS but cant map it as an folder via windows.

The OS partition on a duo v1 is 2 GB in size, and is generally less than 25% full
FWIW, here's some info from my own duo:
Duo://# df -h .
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/md0 1.9G 433M 1.5G 22% /
du -hs /foldername
129M /var
36M /lib
3.6M /bin
3.2M /sbin
158M /usr
15M /etc
2.2M /tmp
17M /frontview
2.6M /proc
5.9M /opt

75% is still a lot more than it should be.
Unfortunately if the system can't update files on the OS partition, some amount of lasting damage can occur.
At this point I suggest doing a full backup of the NAS. Then I'd do a factory reset, rebuild it, and restore the data from the backup. You can re-enable ReadyDLNA, but make sure you install the toggle add-on here: http://www.readynas.com/download/addons/4.1/Toggle
It moves the cache to the data volume. This add-on has no UI, and is reversed by installing it again.

Sorry but I dont think reducing the OS space is the solution here.
There is no file or program that takes 500 MB space in an update process on the NAS. Yes their are many plugins like pyloader and so on installed but the NAS worked fine for a couple of years now and I already recduced the used space by nearby 25%.
I think the problem is a broken netgear service or its a accees problem because all other services are running fine.
How can I check that the services like SMB/NFS/CIFS on the NAS are up and running or how can I check the start up log for entries about the start up process?
Thanks in advance.

I didn't say it was. I suggested rebuilding the NAS and restoring the data from backup.
Though with enough work you might be able to reverse whatever got corrupted.
