Move Disks from Duo to Ultra 2

Hi All,

I would appreciate it if someone could confirm whether I can simply swap my two 2TB disks from my Duo to a new Ultra 2 please?

Thank you 😄

No. DIfferent Platform. Duo is Sparc, Ultra is x86. See http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_migrate_disks_over_from_an_existing_readynas_to_another

You'll need to transfer your data e.g. across your network.

Re: Move Disks from Duo to Ultra 2

Many thanks. Funny enough I did find and read that link before posting but I didn't notice the small print at the bottom...doh. Looks like I'm going to have the transfer over 1TB then.

One more question.....I bought the Ultra 2 with 2 x 250gb drives but as it's only for my business, I'd like to swap it with the duo that has 2 x 2TB drives that's in my house. Once I find somewhere to store my data, can I just pop the two 2TB drives into the Ultra 2, will it format them for use with the Ultra?

Cheers

Re: Move Disks from Duo to Ultra 2

A factory default (http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu) would format the disks.

If the factory reset doesn't work, then hooking the disks up to a PC, deleting the partitions on them, then putting them back in the NAS and trying another factory default would be the way to go.
