New readynas 316 but cannot set group ID's correctly

HI,

To match the GID's on OSX I need to create users with specific UID & GID.

I can create users with UID=501 upwards, but cannot create a GID of 20 to match the Mac OSX permissions when using NFS/AFP.

Apart from hacking into the NAS OS and setting the group up manually how do you do this?

Hi chhym1,

Can you confirm the Firmware running or installed in your ReadyNAS system?

I look forward to your response.

That GID is already in use.

If the GID is already in use, can this be listed, and/or the error message improved.

Hi chhym1,

We will look into this and see if a feature request can be made.

Re: New readynas 316 but cannot set group ID's correctly

Thanks BrianL however that does not help any NFS transfers as without setting the GID I get NFS permission errors when connecting and as 40-50% of the transfers are via linux thats a bit of a problem.

I could use AFP for the mac side but that also seems broken as AFP & rsync fails with buffer errors (still troubleshooting this as two netgear servers are involved).

Currently I am suffering with SMB/CIFS on the mac side with poor performance of 10-15MB/s transfer speed.. Less than ideal.

The GID is assigned to the "dialout" group.  Perhaps someone from Netgear can tell you if that GID can be reassigned via ssh.

You could try SMB+ on the RN316 and see if you can adjust the server settings to improve SMB speeds.
