RN102 Win7 mounted drives are erratically available
Since this morning rhe mounted drives to my ReadyNas are once available once not.
I've been able to create a file. To list files.
All the files are available though the admin webpanel.
I restarted both my computer and my NAS. To no avail.
Working with 6.9.4 Hotfix 1, since 22/oct/18
In the log, I spotted regular timeout issues since this morning:
kernel: INFO: task smbd:3606 blocked for more than 200 seconds.
Any idea of how to solve this ?
Regards,
Laurent

Re: RN102 Win7 mounted drives are erratically available
Hi @lvr1234
Welcome to the Community!
Have you downloaded the full logs? Were you able to check the status of the NAS on RAIDar?
You might want to check logs to see if there are failing drives. You can check smart_history.log, volume.log, disk_info.log. You may want to provide me a copy of the downloaded logs by providing me a download link. You can PM me the link.
Hope this helps!
Regards

Re: RN102 Win7 mounted drives are erratically available
You might also want to try the 6.9.5 beta.

Re: RN102 Win7 mounted drives are erratically available
Hi, Thanks for suggestions. The problem disappeared after a 2 days break, as it came, without explanation. I did nothing.
Cheers.

Re: RN102 Win7 mounted drives are erratically available
Again, same issue !!!
I will look in the logs if I can find anything.
But second time in one months, it is a lot.

Re: RN102 Win7 mounted drives are erratically available
Did you try upgrading to 6.9.5 beta? There are some stability fixes for the RN100 series in the beta.
Downgrading to 6.9.3 is another possibility - I saw similar timeouts on my RN526 with 6.9.4, and downgrading resolved it.

Re: RN102 Win7 mounted drives are erratically available
Thanks for your suggestion. I didn't try the 6.9.5 as it is still a beta. And I don't want to take any risk. I will go for 6.9.3.

Re: RN102 Win7 mounted drives are erratically available
I was experiencing the same exact problem on 6.9.4 Hotfix1 on my RN516. I downgraded to 6.9.3 and the problem disappeared.

Re: RN102 Win7 mounted drives are erratically available
I tried 3 days ago to install the 6.9.3_arm version. It failed (I don't remember the error message).
Today, impossible to access the admin page. The page was stuck at the "splash" screen.
I tried to force a manual shutdown of the NAS. Impossible. The light kept on blinking. So (after removal of my disks) I unplugged the power cable of the NAS. And replugged it.
The admin page was still unavailable (it kept on asking me for my login/password and eventually finished on the password recovery page)
I redid a proper manual shutdown/restart of the NAS.
After that, the admin page is avaiable again and... 6.9.3 has been automatically installed at the restart.
This is really strange.
Do I have to worry about my the sanity of my system ?

Well, you certainly should have a backup of your files. RAID isn't enough.
You could also PM @JohnCM_S or @Marc_V and ask them to review your log zip file (which you can download from the web ui). Don't try to post the log zip here - there is potentially some information in the logs that can compromise privacy.
You could also just do a factory reset, rebuild the NAS and restore the data from backup. If your data volume is old, then you will likely see a speed increase. Netgear has made optimizations to the btrfs setup over the years, but they are can't be applied to existing volumes.

I had similar issues with my guineapig RN104 (very similar to your nas), which went away after I disabled IPv6 protocol stack in the network config. If you don't need that protocol, it is safe to disable as it will simplify your network configuration.
For some hints on improving performance and stability of RN10X in general you might want to follow the link below.
Kind regards

Re: RN102 Win7 mounted drives are erratically available
For now, I've limited myself to the downgrading to 6.9.3. And my NAS seems to work correctly now with OS. I'll keep you updated if this has fixed the issue on longer term.
Thanks to all.
