RN314 cancel a broken balance, system hung

I upgrade recently to 6.4.0 which seems to go fine, but i ran the (new) balance function (rightly or wrongly) on a raid 5 arrary (4 x 2tb disks) and it keeps hanging, it stays powered on but i lose all access via http, ssh and istat, also SMB and any of my shares. i am currenly at 75% usage on my array.

It was watching a move from it and it was stuck on 1% then it hung and i lost all access to it.

I do have CLI from the HDMi + USB ports.

I have run Raidar and i can see the following in diagnostics:
2015-10-09 18:46:16: RIP [] __btrfs_run_delayed_refs+0x1098/0x10b0
2015-10-09 18:45:48: RIP [] __btrfs_run_delayed_refs+0x1098/0x10b0
2015-10-08 18:48:03: RIP [] __btrfs_run_delayed_refs+0x1098/0x10b0
2015-10-08 18:47:56: RIP [] __btrfs_run_delayed_refs+0x1098/0x10b0

I have to hard power cycle the system to get access, of which i get access for a short time and the balance tries to rerun and i get anywhere ranging from 1% to 11% then it fails and hangs. Rince and repeat the syptoms above. When the system is working live i have full acess until it hangs, my data is still there.

I can see btrfs-balance and btrfs-control (i think) from the CLI and i can seem to sigterm them or stop the processes as root.

Also trying to download the logs just now - i cant do while the system is in a hung state - but i can run the diagnostics.

Please Help!

I meant to say i cannot sigterm the processes. and cpu usage is very high on these processes

Re: RN314 cancel a broken balance, system hung

i have parts of it backed up, but not all 4.5TB of data. I am currently in the system somehow via SMB (even though the UI has crashdumped on the 314) and copying off as much other stuff as i have capacity to store.

looks like reset / restore might be all i have available.
