RN316 unable to update Firmware

My ReadyNAS 316 shows firmware to be 6.4.2.
When I "Check for Updates" there is no response. How do I update?
Possibly related to this - when I try to "Synchronize with an Internet server", it doesn't retain the server name I enter, and doesn't synchronize the time.
Any advice would be appreciated.

How is your network interface configured?
If you are using a static IP address, then one common mistake is to forget to configure a DNS server.
Generally I recommend reserving an IP address for the NAS in your router, and setting up the NAS to use DHCP.

Re: RN316 unable to update Firmware
Spot on! Thanks Stephen - I had set up a static IP on the NAS so that my backup software knew where to send its backups. I didn't realise that I could reserve that address with my router. It's done now - NAS firmware updated, time synchronizing, and backups working.
Thank you for your help.
