ReadyNAS Pro 2 (RNDP2000) missing firmware/OS

Hello Netgear Community,

This is a long story, so please be patient 🙂

I recently purchased second-hand a ReadyNAS Pro 2 (RNDP2000) unit. I bought 2x WD Blue 1TB HDD's for testing purposes. With these installed, I powered the unit up, and using the proprietary NETGEAR ReadyNAS RAIDar software, able to view its MAC, Model, Host, IP, but no firmware info.

I am able to setup the disks as X-RAID2 and allow it do its thing. Once this process is complete I attempt to open the units Front view through Chrome but recieve 'Refused to connect' and this occurs in IE too.

From the significant amount of researched I have done thus far it is evident to be a firmware/OS glitch at the boot level. I have attempted several fixes from resetting the unit to factory default to OS reinstall as indicated here https://kb.netgear.com/21100/How-do-I-access-the-boot-menu-on-my-ReadyNAS-Ultra-2-Ultra-2-Plus-or-Pr....

I have also used telnet in tech support/recovery mode and tried other fixes from loading firmware on manually via USB and many suggestions on netgear and other forums without any success. It is my humble opinion there should be a fix for this problem, but I've exhausted all my ideas and just need some expert guideance on getting this machine back in a usable state.

Happy to provide further information if needed.

Thanks in advance.

James

After the setup, I understand that you don't have https access to the web ui.  Did you try accessing the NAS from windows file explorer (\\nas-p-address in the address bar - using the real NAS ip address of course).

Hi Stephen,

Apologies for the late reply.

It will not work that way either.

It seems likely that there is a hardware issue of some sort - possibly needing a USB recovery, or possibly a corrupt eeprom (which would require some courtesy help from Netgear).

But perhaps try running the memory diagnostic from the front panel first.  The hardware manual for your pro-2 is here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RNDU2000/ReadyNAS_Ultra_UltraPlus_NVX_Pro_HW_en_8July11.p... The boot menu is described on pages 14-15.
