Re: ReadyNAS boot difficulties "Retry Startup"

If you have updated to 6.7.3 and ran into this issue please try USB Boot Recovery with ReadyNAS OS 6.7.4 which is now available!

If you have not yet upgraded please upgrade to 6.7.4 rather than 6.7.3. If your system has already been fixed I would still suggest updating to 6.7.4 the normal way using the web admin GUI.

Re: ReadyNAS boot difficulties "Retry Startup"

Which firmware are you running?

Can you download the logs using RAIDar?

Re: ReadyNAS boot difficulties "Retry Startup"

1. Upgrading to Firmware 6.7.3

2. Front panel display shows "Retry startup 96%" forever.

3. NETGEAR RAIDer display: shows

ReanyNAS Retry startup 98% RAIDar Screen.JPG

Download Logs process failed.

ReanyNAS Retry startup 98% RAIDar Diagnostics.JPG

4. Restart

Restart shows

Booting...

Update FW

and gets eventually gets back to

Retry startup

96%

Re: ReadyNAS boot difficulties "Retry Startup"

I followed the USB Boot Recovery procedure using ReadyNASOS-6.7.4-x86_64.zip.

The system booted off the USB and spent about 10 minutes updating the FW. A message flashed on the LCD panel.

It then booted. However it went into Retry startup at 88% and then at 96%.

I tried this a number of times, and the results were always the same.

When the NAS was in the USB firmware update phase, RAIDer display was showing :

Status: Upgrading

Firmware: 6.7.3

Why was it showing 6.7.4?

ReadyNAS Upgrading 6.7.3.JPG

The file that I downloaded was ReadyNASOS-6.7.4-x86_64.zip. The unzipped files in the ReadyNAS Recover Tool directory were ReadyNAS_OS_6_Software_Version_6.7.4_Release_Notes.html and ReadyNASOS-6.7.4-x86_64.img

When the system went into the boot phase, RAIDar was listing the Firmware as 6.7.1, so the firmware update is failing to apply.

Can I suggest that you enhance the USB boot program to write some debug logs to the USB drive?

Re: ReadyNAS boot difficulties "Retry Startup"

Correction to my previous responce.

Why was RAIDer showing upgrading to 6.7.3 when I downloaded 6.7.4?

Re: ReadyNAS boot difficulties "Retry Startup"

Re ReanNAS Retry Startup problem.

I Videoed the USB  firmware update and boot process to caputere the message that flashed up on the LCD screen between the end of the Firmware update and the boot.

ReadyNAS firmware update error.JPG

Look like the root cause  of the problem is in the firmware update program or image that is being flashed into the firmware.

Re: ReadyNAS boot difficulties "Retry Startup"

forseyr if you get that last error message still using 6.7.4 that may suggest that your 4GB root volume could really be quite full. I've sent you a PM.

Re: ReadyNAS boot difficulties "Retry Startup"

forseyr, in addition to running into the full root issue you root volume actually was very full. I moved your MySQL databases to the data volume and created a symlink. Your system should be fine now.
