ReadyNas Duo 2120 v2 slow blink blue power only

Starting up my system on return from vacation.

My NAS won't connect to the network and seems to be stuck booting up.

Blue power light blinking slowly without switching of, power lights not turning on.

If I take the drives out the unit will show up on the network.

Tried to get to the boot menu but wouldny get to the stage when all the lights are on.

Tried to get it to boot without the file check but that isnt working.

Any other ideas before i go out and buy a drive caddy to get my data (only have a partial backup, the shame...)?

Thank you

Steve

Re: ReadyNas Duo 2120 v2 slow blink blue power only

Could you check the exact version you have using this guide:

http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how-to-tell-whether-i-have-a-duo-v1-or-duo-v2-or-nv-v1-or-nv-v2/

Have you tried booting with only disk 1 in, or with only disk 2 in?  Make sure you power off before removing or reinserting disks.

If it is a duo v1 then use Linux reader to try to get your data.  In almost all cases, disk 1 will be the only of the 2 disks that you will be able to read with Linux reader.

If it is a duo v2 then Linux reader almost certainly won't work.

Re: ReadyNas Duo 2120 v1 slow blink blue power only

Thanks for the quick response. I've checked on the link you supplied and mine is a late V1 confirmed by the rear layout. (changed the subject)

Which disc will be disc 1 the left or right hand one?

I take it the unit wont over-write unless 2 discs are present?

I'm thinking maybe I should get a caddy and pull the data at this stage! Lucky I can use the reader...

Why arent the drive lights flashing?

Many thanks

Steve

Re: ReadyNas Duo 2120 v1 slow blink blue power only

Disk 1 is on the left.

There is a nuance here though.  The duo has a data disk and a partity disk.  The data disk is what linux reader can read.  The data disk is usually disk 1, but not always - since the NAS will boot with the disks reversed.  So start with disk 1, and if that can't be read, then try disk 2.

The NAS shouldn't re-initialize either of your disks if you have them installed when you power up.  It will reinitialize if you hot-insert, or if it decides the disk(s) are not formatted for the NAS.

Thank you StepenB. I'll give it a go tomorrow and write up what happened.

Re: ReadyNas Duo 2120 v1 slow blink blue power only

OK I tried the left hand disc on it's own and got the error code:

3 quick blinks folowed by 3 slow blinks

ie

3 - Bad contents on root partition of disks

What can I do about that?

Re: ReadyNas Duo 2120 v1 slow blink blue power only

Have you managed to use Linux reader to get to your data and back it up?

That's what you should do first.

There are a few things you could attempt but some require access to the boot menu.  Earlier were you attempting to access the boot menu using the instructions for the duo v1?  It sounds like you were using the instructions for the duo v2.

http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/24874/~/how-do-i-access-the-boot-menu-on-my-readynas-d...

I would not use any boot menu options until you have backed up the data.

Did you have ssh enabled on the duo?

Re: ReadyNas Duo 2120 v1 slow blink blue power only

Hi

SSH was enabled but I cant access the device on my network. Raidar doesnt see it.

Yep, getting a caddy is my next step.

I'll try getting to the boot menu once I've pulled down the data.

Back in a day or so.

Many thanks

Steve
