Re: cannot access ReadyNAS with IP but can with device name
I can access my Ultra Plus using the device name (https://Readynas3/admin) but using RAIDar the screen shows FrontView but no detail (https://192.168.1.53/admin)
I am trying to clean up my ReadyNAS to continue to allow SSH and FTPS access locally and remotely, along the lines of a post I followed years ago: http://fredriklofter.com/setup-ftps-on-your-readynas-duo/
As security tightened over the years it seems like it was problematic to make either or both SSH and FTPS work to my ReadyNAS Ultra Plus (RNDP400U).
I have reconfigured my system several times because when I reinstall the firmware (4.2.31) and make the changes required (admin password, fixed IP, etc) and re-install EnableRootSSH_1.0-x86.bin, I have difficulty accessing FrontView.
Currently, FrontView does not show any detail only the outline of the GUI, when I use RAIDar (4.3.8), Win7 tries to load ReadyNAS using the IP; But when I use https://Readynas3/admin I can access the full FrontView, on Mozilla Firefox.
I think it has to do with the certificates, but, being a relative novice. I don’t know how to fix it.
Can someone give me some guidance how to fix this maddening issue?
Thanks

IMO, the best (and simplest) way to get secure access to your NAS is to get a router that has OpenVPN built in. Then deploy the OpenVPN client in the devices you want . That's especially the case when you have a legacy NAS with an old version of linux (as you do).
I wouldn't be comfortable allowing remote shell access through a forwarded port to any of my ReadyNAS - especially a legacy model.

This shouldn't have anything to do with certificates.
First try clearing the browser cache, and perhaps then reboot the PC. If it still happens, can you post a couple of screen shots?

Re: cannot access ReadyNAS with IP but can with device name
I had deleted everything but whatever it was in the cache. Works like a charm.
I use this technique because when I travel I want to be able to access my stuff.
This, coupled with PIA/VPN gives me a pretty secure method, IMO.
Thanks, again, Nick
