Prosafe FVS336Gv3 - Content filtering not working
Hello,
I enabled content filtering with keywords 'facebook', 'youtube' and XXX and users on LAN are still able to access the listed websites. I followed the instructions on the guide to set up the filters and I did a firmware upgrade, the current version is 4.3.5-3.
Please let me know if any more steps are required to make the filters work.
ps: after enabling the filters, youtube is blocked in IE but other sites are accessible, filters are not working on other browsers (chrome, firefox)
Thanks & Regards,
Honeymon

Re: Prosafe FVS336Gv3 - Content filtering not working
See if it makes a difference whether you try loading "http://facebook.com" versus "https://facebook.com". None of the FVS devices support blocking traffic to HTTPS-encrypted websites. This is a pretty glaring limitation, IMO, as nearly all big-name websites have both enabled HTTPs and have enabled secure redirect, so that when a user types "facebook.com" into a browser the HTTPS version is tried first.
The devices also cannot filter IPv6-enabled websites......

Re: Prosafe FVS336Gv3 - Content filtering not working
Thank you for the response train_wreck. I understand that it's a hardware limitation and there isn't much that I could do about the content filtering issue, I have dumped the netgear firewall and installed pfsense on an old computer and turned it to a firewall. Things are working smooth now.
Cheers!
