Can't log into extender after firmware upgrade

I use my extender with a MacBook Pro that runs MACOS Mojave.

I got the email about a firmware update, so I went to work. The installation seemed to go well, and the extender is working just fine. However, after the installation I tried to log into the extender a second time (I wanted to change the password to something more secure than "password.") I entered "mywifiext.net" in my browser and hit Enter. Then I entered the default user ID and password. What I got next was like nothing I've ever seen. The address bar shows a blue "progress meter" shooting from left to right, rapidly and over and over. That's all. I can't seem to get into the extender's control panel. Suggestions? The extender seems to work just fine—I'm logged into it as I write this post.

Hi @Caesar1948,

Welcome to the community!

It is recommended to do a factory reset after a firmware update. Please keep us posted if you have done a reset and if the issue will persist.

Re: Can't log into extender after firmware upgrade

I beg forgiveness for the slow response. I can't say whether it's working now. I'm connected to the Internet via the range extender (Home-****2.4_2GEXT). That's good. I've run the firmware update, done the factory reset with the little button in back, and restarted the extender. (That was advice I got after running network diagnostice.) So now I'm connected, but I'm still having trouble getting into the extender's dashboard. I couldn't remember the IP address, so I looked in System Preferences >> Network. In Safari, I entered the IP address I found there, but all I get then is a Google search page, not the dashboard.

Re: Can't log into extender after firmware upgrade

The bottom line on this line of inquiry: Should I change the default UID and password on my extender from "admin" and "password" to something more secure? If the answer to that question is No, we're done. If the answer is Yes, the next question is how do I do it?

You should change the admin password if you can.

To do that you do need to reach the dashboard.  If you've found it's IP address, then try entering http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx  in the browser address bar (where the "xxx" stuff is the IP address).

Re: Can't log into extender after firmware upgrade

Hi @Caesar1948,

Thanks for the response. You can confirm the IP address assigned to the extender by accessing the UI of your router and check under the attached devices. Then follow StephenB's advice.

Looks like we have a winner! I've changed my password, so I'm sure I'll sleep better tonight. Thanks, Dexter!
