Change Region?

Is there any way to change the region on this thing? Netgear support is telling me I can't change the region on a unit bought in the USA, even if I want to take it outside the USA. The Region dropdown menu is locked on "USA".

The FCC mandates devices shipped to or sold here in the US are not user changeable to other regions.
