Channel change

Hi all, Ive purchased a netgear booster, its up and running fine but I want to change the channel, I can change the booster channel via my router fine, but I want to try it on a different channel to the router, I have access to the boosters setting and it shows its using channel 1 highlighted in Grey, the problem is it wont change when I click on it, is it locked somewhere.  Thanks for any help

All the simple extenders have one (resp two for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) radio - and these must run on the same channel like the master router where they connect to (obvious when thinking about....) - so the extender access point does run on the same channel(s).

A little bit different, the more advanced Mesh extenders use dedicated radios (certainly for 5 GHz) for the link to the router - so the access point side can be adjusted if I have it right.
