EX-7700 is on but nobody is home, sometimes.

EX-7700 is on but nobody is home, sometimes.

Auto dealer Service Dept. - along with their personal smartphones use laptops to diagnose vehicles. They connect to a Netgear EX-7700 Ext which is Ethernet wire connected to a Spectrum (cable internet service) provided Sagemcom RAC2V1S router, (Hitron E31N2V1 Modem). App says there are 22 devices attached.to it.  The connection speed to extender is relatively high (340Mbps), but an Internet speed test is a dismal 6.8Mbps on a 400Mbps Spectrum cable business account.

What is happening is, in the morning, (but not every morning and randomly throughout the day), there is no wireless AP available until someone unplugs the 7700 and plugs back in, (power cycle). After which the access points become viewable again. Then it is not unusual for it to drop your connection.  Guys streaming music will get kicked numerous times to where they just give up playing the music. If doing diagnostics or other production activity it will stall or quit leaving the service worker to start the process all over.

There are no other businesses or residential nearby to cause interference. All 2GHz & 5GHz channels are optimized and clean.  So I'd be interested in knowing why the stability issue - AP's (2&5) disappear.  Why is the internet slow if connected to the EX-7700. Anywhere else in the dealership uses the Spectrum provided Wi-Fi router and it is as expected fast.  The firmware is at V1.0.0.206

I am just a country person and have never touched an EX7700,so I may not be much help.

Is is correct to assume that the EX7700 is set up in Access Point (AP) mode (page 15 of the user manual)?

Re: EX-7700 is on but nobody is home, sometimes.

1. try updating the firmware to version 1.0.0.226. Then do a factory reset and reinstall.

2. if the extender is hardwired in, it should be setup in access point mode. I've seen users set it up in extender mode and then hardwire it in and cause issues. So after the factory reset, hardwire it in and re-run setup using the installation assistant and make sure to select access point mode.

To factory reset, push and hold the reset button for 7-15 seconds while powered on.
Here's a video of how to use the assistant.

1st thank you for your feedback and recommendations.

Current status; Back up operational and monitoring via service bay users. So the jury is out until maybe Friday but next week would afford better sampling & averages.

I've attached some pics of the settings which brings me to a gray area. I reset the unit while it was on by holding in the Reset button for around 8 seconds when I noticed the LEDs changing.  It came back up with no settings saying it needs to be set up. Once I clicked on Access Point it filled in the rest with previous settings. Not sure what to make of that but it works left it.

Looks pretty solid and like its working. Hope it stays working.

The one thing you might look at changing is the one 5ghz channel is set on a dfs channel. If you have anything broadcasting on dfs channels in your area, it can cause it to drop for a period of time as it changes to a none dfs channel. You might just set it to one.
