EX3700 5 GHz no connection

Hello,

I've bought the EX3700 and installed it via the URL http://www.mywifiext.com

After finishing the installation I noticed the 5GHz shows "No connection" on the 'status' tab, as seen below (p.s. I blurred my SSID).

I'v set the channel on the EX3700 for 5GHz to 44 (this was the default channel I think), as seen below.

I've configured my Asus RT-AC68U router (with Asuswrt-Merlin firmware) as shown below for 5GHz:

How is it possible that the EX3700 can't get a internet connection on the 5GHz band? What am I doing wrong and what can I do to fix this?

All help is welcome!

When you did the setup of the extender did you have it in the same room as the router? You may want to try that and then move the extender to its location.

Re: EX3700 5 GHz no connection

Well, no, not really. It wasn't the same room, but the router was only 4 meters away, in another room. The signal strenght was 4 or sometimes even 5 of the 5 bars.

Eventually I was able to connect to the 5GHz band of the extender but unable to get an IP. Therefore it looks like a routing problem or DHCP problem of the extender. The 2,4GHz works fine and out-of-the-box, but I didn't get the 5GHz working. I contacted the seller and I'm getting a new extender today, to see if it is perhaps a hardware problem.

Re: EX3700 5 GHz no connection

After some contact with Netgear support, the conclusion is as follows. The router can only extend one of the two bands. You can, for example, only connect the extender to the 5GHz band of the router and extend this on 2.4GHz and 5GHz. It is not possible to connect to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz and extend both bands.

I've created a image to illustrate this. There are 4 possibilities, where the green color means it has a connection and red means it doesn't have a connection.

Re: EX3700 5 GHz no connection

I am confused.

Ex3700 basic setting is allowed to connect 2.4GHz and 5GHz at the same time with reduced speed. My currect EX3700 does not extend 2.4GHz anymore. Something wrong in my environmrnt ot the extender is defative(Only a little bit over half year). It used to work fine in both bands.

Re: EX3700 5 GHz no connection

Apparently it’s not possible to connect to both 2,4 and 5 GHz and extend both channels. So, either connect to 2,4 or 5GHz and extend both channels, or connect to both channels and extend only one channel.

Re: EX3700 5 GHz no connection

This is not true. Both my 2.4Ghz and my 5Ghz will work separately, it's just that the administrator console does not see the 5Ghz connection for some reason.  This only happened with the latest firmware update (V1.0.0.70_1.0.46).  Further, your statement is wrong because there is a "Fast Lane" option in the settings that allows you to leverage both the 2.4Ghz and the 5Ghz at the same time OR utilize the Fast Lane technology for maximum performance but only levaraging one band.

Re: EX3700 5 GHz no connection

Has anyone successfully answered this thread?

I have the exact same problem. Here's the long story...

I had an Netgear R7000 along with the EX3700 Extender and both 2.5 and 5GHZ channels worked with no issues. My Netgear R7000 was recently hacked...I'm assuming this was the VPNFilter malware that's going around...but it made my R7000 router totally inoperable. I purchased an ASUS RT-AC86U device. I'm seeing the exact same issues when I try to connect the EX3700 to my ASUS device. I know for a fact both networks worked at the same time when I had the Netgear R7000, now I only see the 2.4 GHZ network functioning on the extender. I've tried placing the extender in the same room as the RT-AC86U as well as updated the firmware on the EX3700.  I would like to know how to make this work without going out and purchasing a different brand extender...

Scheper,

Did you receive an answer on this? Or were you able to figure it out? I'm needing help with the exact same issue.

Re: EX3700 5 GHz no connection

So Scheper is correct.

I just walked through the various configurations. If you setup the extender and only check the 5GHZ network, then it only extends the 5GHZ network and works great. If you check both boxes, 2.4 and 5, then it picks the 2.4 GHZ as the network to extend and the 5GHZ does not work. This seems to be a bug in the most recent firmware V1.0.0.72_1.0.47. But Scheper is correct... Maybe I should not have upgraded my firmware. This worked fine prior to the firmware upgrade. I had both networks extended with no issues. Oh well...I'll replace this extender very soon.

Re: EX3700 5 GHz no connection

Perhaps it's the firmware version, I don't know. In my case the 2.4 and 5gHz babe have the same SSID and password, so it's not really an issue for me to only extend one band. I only extend the 5gHz band to 2.4 and 5.

Re: EX3700 5 GHz no connection

My EX3700 can extend both bands. I said it was a defective one which was wrong. As I mentioned before it was working fine that was because it was in a different location. The location currently may have some sort of wireless influence that's why it couldn't extend the 2.4GHz. Once I switch places, it works. Now the EX3700 is extended the 2.4GHz from another of my 2.4GHz extender and 5GHz is extended from my router.

Re: EX3700 5 GHz no connection

Thank you Sheper after 2 hours of messing this really helped.  There is nothing in the documentation that explains this, I am IT savy.  How someone that isn't can understand and solve this issue is an example of where consumer electronics should make simpler products.

Thanks

Chris
