EX7000 + Firmware Version 1.0.1.78 == crash

Echoing what others on the forum have said, I have an EX7000, and after upgrading to firmware Version 1.0.1.78, it appears to work for a few minutes but then seems to crash/reboot.  This behavior is consisent and makes the device essentially useless.

I've had to downgrade back to 1.0.0.66 for now.  Hoping that netgear folks read this forum and will report the bug back to engineering.

We had to roll-back to 1.0.0.66 too - EX7000 in AP mode.

It is the same for me. After upgrading the extender to 1.0.1.78 new firmware, it works for few minutes and than crashes and reboots. I have downgraded the firmware to the previous version. I hope that Netgear will work to solve the matter.

Re: EX7000 + Firmware Version 1.0.1.78 == crash

In addition to what others are saying, firmware version 1.0.1.78 also breaks the functionality of using a WiFi password on the extender that's different than the password on the wireless router it's connecting to. This particular function worked without issue with the previous firmware version 1.0.0.66, but with the updated firmware, it prevents any device from connecting to it. As a result, I also had to revert it back to the previous firmware version to get it working again.

Re: EX7000 + Firmware Version 1.0.1.78 == crash

I have found the same issues described here. Just contacted support to see what they say.

After upgrading the firmware to 1.0.1.78 the EX7000 extender keeps dropping the connection to all my devices after about 5 minutes. The extender seems to lock up and is not accessable until I power it off and back on. I will be downgrading the firmware when I get home to the previous version. I tried everything (I am an IT manager) to resolve the problem, but agree there is bugs with the new firmware.

Re: EX7000 + Firmware Version 1.0.1.78 == crash

Sadly I have the same issue, and even worse. I rolled back to 1.0.0.66 but the funtion is still not sable. My mobile devices cannot connect to its extend wifi network. The device also died randomly in minutes. I have also tried the initial verion 1.0.0.30 and some other versions. Almost the same problems.

Can't help much - a factory reset and a reconfig from scratch might be required to revert to previous firmware.

By the way FYI, for your rolling back option, I am running on V1.0.0.50_1.0.102 which is quite stable.

Re: EX7000 + Firmware Version 1.0.1.78 == crash

The link and Firmware 66 edition apparently works.  I am now connected.  But you need to be vigilant as I simply logged back in to Mywifiext.net and the first thing it did was tell me there is a "great update" available.  Do you want to try it??   Well, I expect that great update is the broken firmware.  It is annoying that Netgear has not taken it down.

My EX7000 crashes after a few days. I am using my EX7000 as an access point rather than as an extender.

Re: EX7000 + Firmware Version 1.0.1.78 == crash

Hello,

I tried again today t update the firmware and the problem isn't fixed. Almost sure that the problem of connection or stability can come from the fact after the update the virtual MAC adress of 2.4 and 5Gb are strictly the same.

As they are identical, the router isn't able to adress correctly the right network and connections are impossible or difficult.

I opened a ticket during my guarantee and never been contacted about it from technical service. I saw that other peolple tried without success. A large part of us signaled, highlighted the issue but nothing change since several months.

Netgear replaced my EX6200 bought in July because they have a firmware issue They provides a EX7000 and now they reproduce the issue on it. I have some doubt about their capacities to solve but I'm sure they are able to duplicate the problem.

Several years I use their products but maybe it's timeto go away...

Well, as long as the current firmware is this questionable 1.0.1.78 available since back in September 2018 not much can be fixed magically.

Re: EX7000 + Firmware Version 1.0.1.78 == crash

1/30/19

I've had mine for almost 3 years. Updated this past weekend and it crashed. I tried a couple of the solutions for updating the newer version of the firmware, except I'm unable to connect to the Extender via wireless OR ehternet cable! So there's no way for me to upload the  fix to the extender.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks!

Re: EX7000 + Firmware Version 1.0.1.78 == crash

FWIW some folks from Netgear did contact me back in October after I first reported this.  They seemed interested and said engineering was working on reproducing the issue.  But... crickets since.

Re: EX7000 + Firmware Version 1.0.1.78 == crash

Support just got back to me on my ticket.  Asked me to upgade to V1.0.1.78_1.0.140 (latest) and then do a factory reset and re-configure.  I did all that, and it seems to be working perfectly!  No more crash.

Re: EX7000 + Firmware Version 1.0.1.78 == crash

My last comment was premature. The EX7000 does seem to be more stable than the last time I upgraded to 1.0.1.78, but it is still crashing regularly. Not as frequently as before, at least every hour or two.

Rolling back to 1.0.0.66 again...

Re: EX7000 + Firmware Version 1.0.1.78 == crash

I have a solution that worked for me.  I threw it out.  I have a couple of extenders that I paid less than $40 for that work much better and over longer distances.
