EX7000 or EX8000 with R9000

I have an R9000 Router which I am very happy with. But it will soon be moving to a different location, which is likely to cause issues with WiFi in some parts of the house. Therefore, I am looking to add an EX7000 or EX8000 and wiring it back to the Router.

Is it worth paying the extra for the EX8000 over the EX7000 if it is wired back to the Router? As I have seen people mention that some (if not most) of the benefits of the EX8000 are lost if you do not connect wireless to the Router.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello MatF

The biggest benefit with the EX8000 is the mesh network so when moving around the house you do not have to connect to a new SSID.

With the EX8000 wired, can this occur in AP mode? or only in Extender mode?

Thanks DarrenM

I did see some confusion over the use of a single SSID when wiring the EX8000 back to the Router, but I looked through the user manual and it does state this feature can still be used, which is good.

I do wonder how well the wireless will mesh with them wired together though. A wireless mesh network makes sense to me when multiple wireless devices are working together, wirelessly. But if they are wired together do they only communicate with each other through that wired connection? Thus affecting their 'sensing' of the other wireless devices?

AnthonyBe, looking at the user manual is can only be used in AP mode when wired back to a router.

I don't think I'll need to use a USB input on an extender, but why does the EX7000 have USB 3.0 and the EX8000 only has USB 2.0?
