Is there a way to get smart home devices to use the Mesh wifi instead of the router?

If you're using the mesh feature, then no. The devices roam per the devices own roaming protocol. If you disable onessid and set it with its own ssid, then you can

do you have it setup using the mesh "onessid" feature? 

If so, its the devices that roam and not the router/extender that cause it.
