I've got the EX7700 Nighthawk X6 Tri-band WiFi Mesh Extender set up as a wifi extender connected over 5GHz to my Archer VR1600v v2 router.
I can't get internet down speeds above ~54mbps.
Connecting to the router wifi directly gives me the expected 250mbps+ internet speed.
Looking at the Netgear UI, it claims to have a 866mbps connection to the router.
If i plug the EX7700 into the router using a cable, I get the desired speeds.
I have WMM enabled, and I'm using "802.11a/n/ac mixed" with WPA2-PSK+AES.
I have tried a hard reset and reconfiguration of both the router and EX7700.
I have the latest firmware on both the router and the EX7700 (V1.0.0.216). I also tried downgrading the firmware to V1.0.0.206, but that made no difference.
Any ideas?

the only other thing I'd try would be trying it on a different router.
A friend/family member that you can try it on.
If it doesn't work on that, then its a hardware issue and I'd open a support case.
click on "mynetgear" at the top. from there you can register an account and the device. That'll let you check warranty/support

Re: EX7700 Nighthawk X6 Extender limited to ~54mbps
what speed do you get if you hardwire into the extender?
did you set it up using wps or using the installation assistant?

Re: EX7700 Nighthawk X6 Extender limited to ~54mbps
Hi, thanks for your response. I have tried setting up the extender using
- the assistant in the browser
- the nighthawk app
- WPS.
If I hardwire my computer to the extender, I get the same slow speed.

Re: EX7700 Nighthawk X6 Extender limited to ~54mbps
do you have different router you could try it on?
the 54mbps is what I'd expect from a 2.4ghz but not the 5ghz.

Re: EX7700 Nighthawk X6 Extender limited to ~54mbps
I don't have a different router I'm afraid. If I connect directly to the router's 5ghz I get the fast speed. I agree it seems like 2.5Ghz speeds.

Re: EX7700 Nighthawk X6 Extender limited to ~54mbps
https://fast.com/ and http://tpg.speedtestcustom.com/ (my ISP's speed test) using a windows computer, a macbook and an android phone.
To make 100% sure the EX7700 wasn't connecting to the router 2.4Ghz for some reason I disabled 2.4Ghz on the router. No difference.

If you don't have a spare router to try, I'd start back at factory with both the router and the extender.

Re: EX7700 Nighthawk X6 Extender limited to ~54mbps
Just did a speed test between two computers, one on the router network, and one on the extender network - getting about 25-30Mbps read and write speed. With both clients connected to the extender I see about 100Mbps read and write. Doesn't look like it's anything to do with internet QoS or intra-network communication. Looks purely like the link between router and extender.

Try changingg what channel is the backhaul.
right now you're using channel 157 for backhaul and channel 44 for front haul.
Swap them. set your router to broadcast on channel 44 so the extender has to connect with that as the backhaul.

Re: EX7700 Nighthawk X6 Extender limited to ~54mbps
Thanks, this was actually how it was configured intitially. The Netgear UI recommended me I swap them around.
Either way the same problem persists.

Re: EX7700 Nighthawk X6 Extender limited to ~54mbps
Thanks. I got a new router - a TP-link AX1800 Wi-Fi 6, and now the EX770 has full speed as expected. Looks like it was the router. Thanks for your help.

Glad it turned out to be the router but sorry it was the router (they're a bit expensive)
