I have a question for you all my router is AC aka WiFi 5 my router doesn't support mesh 802.11 R or K. But If I get range extenders that do support Mesh would they work as a mesh system without the router. Or does the Router need to support mesh as well. Need to to know before I buy I don't want to waste my money.

What actual router do you have?
If you're looking at more than 1 extender a better option might be to replace the router with a mesh system like Orbi or the MK nighthawk.
then you have a system designed for roaming.
