EX8000 in Access Point (AP) mode - should i enable both 5ghz Networks?

Hey all,

My main router is a Nighthawk r7000p in the office.

i then have a cat 6 cable to connect this to my EX8000 in the hallway (around 20m away).

Using the Ex8000 in AP mode - when it comes to wireless, should i enable both the 5ghz networks or not?

im not sure on the pro/con for doing either, any help would be great please!

  • I probably would. The reason I say this is it gives you another 5ghz channel to use.

Pro's: another 5ghz radio to use, freeing up space on either the router or the other 5ghz channel being used.

Con: Adds potential wifi interference if you can't space all your 5ghz channels from your router's wifi channels.

Sounds like you have it done the correct way.

Between your R7000p and the EX8000, you'll potentially have 5 seperate ssids. Sounds like my place before I switched to mesh. :)
