Ethernet Connected Wireless Extender
Hello,
I am trying to find some info/recommendations on how to extend the wireless coverage in my house.
I have a Netgear N150 wireless modem/router set up at one end of the house, and the signal is very weak at the other end of the house. The kitchen and appiances are inbetween these 2 points and I believe that it may be blocking my signal a bit.
I have ethernet running throughout my house and have an available port where the wireless signal is weak so I would like a wireless repeater/extender that can get the netwrok from an ethernet connection and then deliver wireless access to both WAN and LAN.
A few months ago I bought a Netgear N300 modem/router thinking that I could just plug it in via ethernet and it would do all I want, but have since discovered that doing this I could only get LAN or WAN but not both. I want to avoid purchasing something that wont do what I want a second time.
I thought I might have found the right device when I saw the Netgear EX6200 AC1200 Dual Band WIFI Range Extender but after looking at the manual online, it said that it wont work connected to an exsisting WIFI enabled modem.
Can anyone help me choose a product that will best suit my needs?
Thanks,
Peter

Re: Ethernet Connected Wireless Extender
I have just looked at the manual for the Netgear Nighthowk AC1900 WIFI Range Extender - Model EX7000 - and it seems to be able to be connected via ethernet and work as an access point.
Can anyone tell me if this product will deliver WIFI for both my home network like my ReadyNAS, and also allow devices to connect to the internet.
One further question. In Access Point Mode it looks like you are unable to use the ethernet ports on the device to connect wired devices to it. Can someone confirm that I have understood this right.
Thanks,
PEter

Re: Ethernet Connected Wireless Extender
Yes, the EX7000 also works in AP mode. The EX7000 will need to be ethernet connected to your router, using one of your wireless router ports.
You create SSID's just like your router, which can also be the same same as your wireless router. Use different wireless channels (2.4 and 5 ghz) than your wireless router on the EX7000. The EX7000 in AP mode, all the LAN ports can be used. All devices that connect to this AP (wireless or wired) can connect to the internet, if all your devices are cabled, and configured correctly.
