Ex800 extender missing one 5mhz signal from Nighthawk Router

Hello, I have the r8000 router and the EX8000 extender and recently my 1st 5mhz signal is no longer showing on my extender. I tried updated firmware and running the smart connect but it is still absent. Is there a trick to getting both 5mhz signals to show and extend?

Are you using it in extender mode or in access point mode? 

In extender mode, 1 of the 5ghz signals is reservered just for router---extender communication.
