Firmware Update for AX1800 WiFi Mesh Extender to version 1.0.2.26 from 1.0.1.20

Friends,

I got this message from my AX1800 WiFi Mesh Extender:

Then I get the below message after clicking Yes.  Any ideas why?

Photos have to be approved by a moderator and can take several days.

You can click on "choose file" and attach a photo per post (so just post several times). Then we can see it right away.

Also, AX1800 is a speed, not a model. What model extender do you have?

And what router is it connected to?

Hope this helps while the moderator clears the pics.

Prior to uploading the firmware to the extender, did you extract it when downloaded?

Re: Firmware Update for AX1800 WiFi Mesh Extender to version 1.0.2.26 from 1.0.1.20

To keep it simple I just followed the prompts on the browser interface and iOS app interface.  The browser interface gives more interesting feedback - says somethinfg about the file.  The iOS app just says it worked and then asks me to re-do the update over and over agian.

When I looked for a downloadable file on the above link it stated that 1.0.1.20 was the current version.  So, I was wondering if this was some Netgear mistake or if somebody had any more insight.  As the website seems to claim 1.0.2.26 does not exist.

Sometimes the auto-update server gets the update before it gets loaded to the manual update server.

That is certyainly possible.  But, it does not explain why both interfaces (Mac OS Safari and iOS App)  would reject it after downloading. it.

Have you tried on a windows pc? I'd try to avoid using the app or wireless.

When we see corrupt firmware issues, it tends to be when people are updating using the app or over wireless.

Let me make sure I understand what you are suggesting:

  1. Perform the update on a windows machine?
    1. If so, I do not have one.  All my machines are on wireless.  I just have MacBook Airs, Ipads, iPhones, and various other IP non computing devices.
  2. Perform a wired udate?
    1. My EAX15 WiFi Mesh Extender is geenrally a stricly wireless device.
      1. Are you suggesting I turn off the WiFi and attempt to connect it to my switch?

Best

You can update via wireless, I just don't recommend it. Like I said, when we see corrupt firmware issues, it tends to be from people who've updated using the app or wireless.

a cheap usb--->ethernet adapter is handy to have around for occassions such as this or times where you just need a hardwired connection.

In terms of it being wireless. It is wireless but it does have an ethernet port on it that you can connect a pc/laptop to.

Re: Firmware Update for AX1800 WiFi Mesh Extender to version 1.0.2.26 from 1.0.1.20

So assuming I can't manually download the file from anywhere what are the proposed steps:

  1. Plug the EAX15 into my switch
  2. Find it's IP address and establish a connection
  3. And then repeat the UI/X steps I attempted above using the wired connection

It's strange that in 10-20 years I have never had this problem before and each time I try the wirelss update it fails.  Probabalistically I would think there would ne a non-zero chance of success each time.  However the empirically (after mabe 50 attempts) my attempts always fail.  Something is not right here and I worry if I should trust the file.

Thoughts?

The extender won't work plugged into the switch because you set it up in extender mode. You'd need to reinstall it in access point mode if you were going to connect it to the switch.

Yes.  So what exactly are you proposing I connect it to then?

Re: Firmware Update for AX1800 WiFi Mesh Extender to version 1.0.2.26 from 1.0.1.20

So I plug an ethernet cable from from the EAX15 to a computer and then do what?

Am I supposed to plug my computer into the switch to avoid using WiFI (we are assuming that is the problem)?  I would still think I need to connect to the IP address of the EAX15 (over ethernet) and go through the UI/X prompts as that is the only place the firware file exists as we discussed above.

What am I missing?

Re: Firmware Update for AX1800 WiFi Mesh Extender to version 1.0.2.26 from 1.0.1.20

I'm just trying to get you to try the update via a hardwired connection.

If it doesn't, then you'd just ned to wait for the file to be uploaded to the manual server.

Re: Firmware Update for AX1800 WiFi Mesh Extender to version 1.0.2.26 from 1.0.1.20

If I understand what you are suggesting I do not think it's possible.  But, I may not really understand your suggestion.

What I understand is I plug my laptop into my extender (do something) and I'm done.  I think I am asking for clarity on the 'do something part.'

My best guess is I borrow my compers internet connection and have the computer DHCP an IP address to the Enxtender (I know of no other way to communicte with it) and then from the extender I then connect to via IP to to the laptop to get to the internet to download the firmeware file.

If that is right, then that process is complicated enough to make sure I get the procedure right so as not to waste time.

Is this what you are proposing?
