How do I select WiFi channel and speed in Nighthawk Extender?

I have nighthawk mr1100 and just connected nighthawk extender ex7000. As I was reviewing how to improve performance it keeps talking about picking the right channel and speed. How do I know what to select? Any advice?

    If you're using it in extender mode, the extender uses the same channel that the router is using. So you'd need to change it on the router.

      They both don’t offer the same channel options. Do I have something configured wrong?

        depends. This wasn't very specific. 

        It is a dual band so does have a 2.4ghz band and a 5ghz band. The extender should pickup the channel the hotspot is using for each and rebroadcast on those.
