Which "the Netgear web site"? netgear.com? routerlogin.net? ...?
> [...] to install my extender manually,
What, exactly, is "my extender"?
> [...] but am still unable to get connected.
"am unable" is not a useful problem description. It does not say
what you did. It does not say what happened whan you did it. As usual,
showing actual actions with their actual results (error messages, ...)
can be more helpful than vague descriptions or interpretations.

Re: I can't access the Netgear web site for instructions
SORRY, BUT I'D ALREADY SPENT SO LONG ON THIS SITE THAT I WAS GETTING VERY FRUSTRATED. IT'S AN N300 WIFI RANGE EXTENDER, MODEL EX200. I TRIED TO CONNECT TO THE SITE: WWW.MYWIFIEXT.NET. I COULD NOT CONNECT BUT FOUND TRHOUGH A RELATED SITE ON GOOGLE THAT I NEEDED TO CONNECT THROUGH AN ETHERNET CABLE NOT A WIFI CONNECTION. I DID THIS BUT THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I CAN THUS NOT SET UP THE EXTENDER TO WORK WITH MY EXISTING ROUTER. THIS IS THE ACTUAL ERROR MESSAGE I RECEIVED:
This site can’t be reached ____server DNS address could not be found (ACTUAL ADDRESS REMOVED AS INVALID BY NETGEAR
.

Shift key stuck?
"www.mywifiext.net" is not the right place; (plain) "mywifiext.net"
might be. (That looks like poor judgement by Netgear.)

Is that a Netgear product? Is that really the model number?
> [...] FOUND TRHOUGH A RELATED SITE ON GOOGLE [...]
An actual link to that page might be more useful than your summary of
what it says.

Re: I can't access the Netgear web site for instructions
Guessing that "EX200" was actually intended to be "EX2700"...
> "www.mywifiext.net" is not the right place; (plain) "mywifiext.net"
> might be. (That looks like poor judgement by Netgear.)
Apparently, "mywifiext.net" is the extender version of what
"routerlogin.net" is for routers. The User Manual for an EX2700 really
does suggest "www.mywifiext.net", which may work when it works, but it
won't get you to the (misleading/useless) error page for extenders the
way either "routerlogin.net" or "www.routerlogin.net" will for a router.
For an explanation of what it means (for a router):
https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/1365830
ATTENTION NETGEAR:
ALP $ nslookup routerlogin.net
[...]
Name: routerlogin.net
Addresses: 52.27.120.91, 54.68.36.118
ALP $ nslookup www.routerlogin.net
[...]
Name: www.routerlogin.net
Addresses: 52.27.120.91, 54.68.36.118
ALP $ nslookup mywifiext.net
[...]
Name: mywifiext.net
Addresses: 54.218.118.186, 54.200.99.0
ALP $ nslookup www.mywifiext.net
[...]
*** alp-l.antinode.info can't find www.mywifiext.net: Non-existent host/domain
These misleading error pages are bad enough when you can get to them,
but when lame DNS configuration makes one inaccessible, it causes even
more confusion.

Re: I can't access the Netgear web site for instructions
Thanks for all the replies.
This is the site I went to for help on connecting to Netgear:
https://kb.netgear.com/29746/I-can-t-access-www-mywifiext-net-what-do-I-do
I connected to mywifiext.net, as suggested, and it asks me whether my extender and router use the same network name. I''m not very computer-literate - how do I find out these names?

Re: I can't access the Netgear web site for instructions
I am at a loss to know how to connect my wifi extender to my router, which is from EE as part of my broadband/land line subscription package.
I can't find out the address of the extender (required to follow the instructions at mywifiext.net) as it's not connected to the router - that's the problem I'm trying to solve in the first place.
If nobody can help me to connect the extender then I will have to write it is off as a wasted purchase and consign it to the drawer contining all other now-redundant electrial equipment - I'm sure we've all got one of those.
