Is the an ideal WIFI extender for an AC1450 router?

Hi - my WIFI router is at one end of the house - and while our house isn't large - the bedrooms on the other side of the house have low "bars" connecting due to the walls between them and the router.

Is there a netgear extender that might work to boost the signal in this side of the house?

  • Any range extender will work.  If you want an extender that is well matched to the capabilities of your router, then use an AC1900 class range extender.  OTOH, if budget is a concern; or the devices in the bedroom are slower (e.g. they use 802.11n instead of 802.11ac, or they use single band Wi-Fi); or you use Wi-Fi mostly to access the Internet and your Internet service is a bottleneck, then a lower class extender may be sufficient.

For best performance, it's recommended to connect an extender to the router via Ethernet.  If that's not possible and you must use an extender wirelessly, then keep in mind that the speeds through the extender will generally be 50% slower.  Extenders have a busy job simultaneously talking to devices and the router.

Also keep in mind that there is no guarantee that an extender can boost the signal adequately.  Placement of the extender, the construction of the walls in your house, the presence of other Wi-Fi networks and other sources of radio interference can negatively impact overall performance.
