Keeps dropping wifi connection

I have two routers in my home. A R7000 and this new one a RS400 with cyber sercurity I got as a gift.I connected the RS400 via ethernet to the 

the R7000 and basically use it to extend my wifi. The RS400 is on a different subnet 10.0.x.x and the R7000 is on 192.168.x.x 

The problem. 

I am connected for hours on end. This router continually loses wifi connectivity and I am only 6 feet away from it. The only way to reconnect is to disconnect and reconnect. Its not my laptop since I use it at work for 8 hours at a time no issues and before this with an older router I pitched because the WiFI did not cover the house well.  So before I return this any clues? If not I will return it and get something else.
