Netgear EAX20 and DHCP with MacOS Monterey 12.6

Netgear EAX20 and DHCP with MacOS Monterey 12.6

Lots to detail here.

I "upgraded" my MacBook Pro to Monterey 12.6.  My other Apple devices (Iphone and Ipad) have auto updated.

Something in that process caused my Netgear AX1800 WiFi Extender to start handing out IP Addresses, and setting the DNS server to it's own address.

Result, none of my apple devices could see the internet, though connecting to WiFi was no problem and the signal was strong. And my Chromebook experienced no changes or problems.  If I move my MacBook to access my Router and shut off the extender, the problem disappears as well (because now DNS and IP Addresses align with reality).

None of the Netgear posts about DHCP that I could find were accurate for my situation. There is no LAN Settings section in the app or in the web access to the device.

So, I have had to manually set IP Addresses and DNS Servers on my Apple devices to be able to access the Internet. I consider this a work-around and not a fix.  Hoping that somewhere between Apple and Netgear, a solution will be forthcoming.

And, of course, I'm hoping that I've described the problem accurately.  I can't go back in time and check past settings against current.

If anyone knows of an actual way to stop my EAX20 (AX1800) Nighthawk Mesh Extender to stop providing DHCP services, please post here. Figuring out what was happening took days I didn't have and used braincells that should be dormant. Hopefully this helps someone else.

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

WiFi Range Extenders & Nighthawk Mesh - NETGEAR Communities

You might like to search there for messages related to your problem.

In the meantime you could visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.

Check for various troubleshooting tips.

You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.
