"Red" or amber? Was there some causal event?

It may mean that you haven't consulted the D6200 User Manual.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Read. Look for the LED
descriptions and "Troubleshoot". Further reading might not hurt,
either.
