Netgear extender wifi speed much slower
I recently purchased a Netgear EX6120 to have a wired ethernet to my PC with higher speeds.
The wifi in my room is around 200-300Mbps, however, the wifi extender is only at 20-30 Mbps without ethernet, with ethernet it is 30-40.
The product description says it goes up to 1200Mbps.
I use a virgin media hub4.
Extender is connected to home network wirelessly.
Is there anything that can be done to fix this or will I have to return it?

Re: Netgear extender wifi speed much slower
What happens if you test the speed over 5ghz?
2.4ghz is a much slower band than 5ghz. that 20-40mbps is more what you can expect out of 2.4ghz.
Plus single/dual band extenders drop throughput by 50% because they have to use the same chip to go router---extender and then extender-----devices and they can't do both at once.
So if you're connected to 2.4ghz, thats about the speed you can expect. 5ghz should be faster.
