Netgear wifi extension made my wifi worse

I recently installed my netgear wifi extender so that my room can get better signal for wifi, but ever since I installed it my wifi has gotten much worse. I connected my computer to the extender to see how it would run and it worked good for a few seconds then began to have a continous amount of lag which is many times worse than what it was before. After removing the wifi extender out and restarting and reseting my wifi router I still can't seem to make my wifi go back to how it was before I ever installed the extender.

    1. whatt extender did you add/install? 

    2. what firmware is on it? 

    3. what router did you connect it to? 

    4. How far from the router is the extender? 

    5. How many walls and what are they made of between router----extender?

    6. Did you install using wps or using the installation wizard?

    7. how far from the router and then the extender is the computer you're testing on? 

    8. are you testing over 2.4ghz or 5ghz?
