Nighthawk and 2.4 ghz for smart plugs

I'm trying to connect some smart plugs to my network but they require 2.4 ghz and for the life of me I can't figure out how to create a separate network with that 2.4 or how to go about getting those to connect - the best answer I've found was to take the plugs far enough from the house to get out of the 5 range but that isn't super practical and didn't work well for me when I tried. Any help is much appreciated.
